CARIBBEAN BAR CHANGES THEME OF SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET TO HURRICANE RELIEF FOR THE CARIBBEAN --www.caribbeanbar.org-- MIAMI, Florida - September 9, 2004 --- The Caribbean Bar Association (CBA) decided this afternoon to change the focus and theme of its annual Banquet, scheduled for Saturday, September, 18 in Hollywood, Florida, from raising funds for scholarships to supporting hurricane relief in the Caribbean region. "Hurricane Ivan has left a trail of destruction throughout the southern Caribbean and is now heading for Jamaica as a category five hurricane. The region has experienced widespread damage. The CBA Executive board decided to change the charitable intent of the banquet for hurricane relief since plans were already underway for the hosting of a major fund-raiser," stated Robert C.L. Vaughan, president, Caribbean Bar Association. The Banquet will be held on Saturday September 18, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa, 3555 South Ocean Drive, Hollywood, FL 33019. The majority of the proceeds from the Banquet will be donated to victims of Hurricane Ivan in the Caribbean. The public is invited to attend and support the relief effort in the Caribbean. The event will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the CBA as well as recognize the three founding members, Jerry Hamilton, Esq.; Neil DeLeon, Esq.; and A. Wayne Gill, Esq. Additionally, Western Union will be recognized for its responsible corporate governance in the massive amount of generosity it has shown the Caribbean people in South Florida as well as back home. The Banquet’s Keynote Speaker will be Professor Rex Nettleford, O.M., Vice Chancellor, University of the West Indies. The evening's Master of Ceremonies will be the Honorable Winston Barnes, Commissioner, City of Miramar The event is sponsored by Mellon Bank, Air Jamaica, Jamaica Tourist Board, Houck Hamilton & Anderson, Steel Hector & Davis LLP, Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, and The Sun Sentinel. Tickets are $85 per person and dress is semi-formal. Music will be provided by MystikNRG of Orlando. Financial donations for hurricane relief in the Caribbean will be accepted at the Banquet and delivered to the appropriate authorities coordinating relief efforts.
