Hurricane Ivan, a Category 3 system with sustained winds of 115mph, impacted Grenada on September 7, 2004, leaving a trail of extensive damage to the entire country. All utilities were knocked out, making it difficult for communications within Grenada and between Grenada and the outside world. From all reports approximately 90% of houses were destroyed or damaged.

A Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) team is presently on the ground in Grenada providing support and confirming priority needs. They have indicated that there is an urgent need for the following:

  • Water
  • Food
  • Tents
  • Blankets
  • Tarpaulins
  • Roof material
  • Batteries (all sizes)
  • Building supplies (all types)
  • Construction tools
  • Emergency housing
  • Hand held sets required to improve communication among emergency workers
We are therefore making a special appeal for your kind assistance and support as we work to alleviate the pain and suffering of our people in this very difficult period. Your prayers and contribution of supplies or cash would be greatly appreciated.

A disaster relief fund has been set up and all monetary donations can be sent to JP Morgan Chase, Account # 292609266065. ABA code for all wires and transfers is: 021000021 and the Swift Code is: CHASUS33. Checks should be written to the "Grenada Disaster Relief Fund" and sent to the Consulate at the above address.

We shall be grateful for whatever assistance that could be provided.

Consul General
