Work has commenced on the Grand Roy Government School. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Guyana’s National Forces, has been spearheading the initiative.

The Grand Roy Government School, which accommodates more than 200 students, was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan. Most of the roof was lost and the building suffered severe structural damage. Rehabilitation is expected to cost approximately $300,000 (EC).

Students are currently being tutored at the Grand Roy RC Church. Principal of the Grand Roy Government School, Mrs. Janice Thomas, said that they are working under cramped conditions, as there is no other available place for the students. The principal commended the teachers for their continued support and sacrifice in this rebuilding period.
