Prime Minister Keith Mitchell met today with Coordinator of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA), Jeremy Collymore. In welcoming the CDERA Coordinator, Prime Minister Mitchell said that he wanted to put on record that CDERA’s role in Grenada’s reconstruction efforts is remarkable. CDERA has been actively involved with the National Emergency Relief Organisation (NERO), especially with enhancing abilities in disaster preparedness and response. Mr. Collymore presented an update on CDERA activities which includes mobilising support for Grenada, enhancement of communication, public education and training, provision of personnel, equipment and other resources necessary for the Grenada Disaster preparedness process. The chairmanship of CDERA’s Council, CDERA’s role in Cricket World Cup 2007, preparations for 16th Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community later this month and the recruitment of additional staff for the implementation of Disaster planning and public information and education were also discussed.
