The Ministry of Education has awarded a contract for a Design and Supervision Consultancy for 17 of the Nation’s primary and secondary schools.

Rehabilitation and expansion efforts have commenced on a number of the schools.

Mr. Raphael Joseph, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communication, Works and Transport, signed the $800,000 (US) contract for the Design and Supervision Consultancy for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the schools on behalf of the Government of Grenada, while Mr. Hardutt Punwasee, Managing Director, signed on behalf of VIKAB Engineering Consultants Limited of Trinidad and Tobago.

Ms. Peron Johnson, Project Manager of the Project Management Unit in the Ministry of Education, said VIKAB Engineering Consultants was selected from among local and international companies, in a competitive bidding process under established World Bank procurement procedure.

The rehabilitation of the 17 Schools is estimated to cost $9.3 million (US) and will be funded by the World Bank and the Government of Grenada.
