Grenadian schoolchildren from four of this country's schools will again have access to their science laboratories. The laboratories were damaged during last year's devastating passage of Hurricane Ivan over Grenada, which resulted in untold damage to the majority of the country's infrastructure. Announcement of the refurbishment came during a news conference hosted by the Ministry of Education. Funding for these laboratories, which are mainly used by students of physics, is being undertaken by First Caribbean International Bank, under the supervision of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA). A Cheque in the amount of $80,000.00 USD, was presented to Minister of Education and Labour, Hon. Claris Charles in a ceremony at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday 17th February 2005. In presenting the cheque, First Caribbean's Country Head, Mr. Ricardo Charles noted that the Bank is thoroughly committed to assisting in the rebuilding effort. "First Caribbean's vision places our regional people at the centre of all our activities. This means that in times of prosperity or adversity, our Bank must respond in an immediate way to further enhance the quality of life and financial well being of our people. This is our priority at this time." The four schools benefiting from this initiative are: Happy Hill Secondary, Grenville Secondary, St. John's Christian Secondary, and Mt. Rose SDA Comprehensive School. |
