NEWS RELEASE

Chile will send a technical team to Grenada in March to examine locations where assistance can be provided in house reconstruction and other areas of development.

This was agreed on Sunday, February 20, when Prime Minister Keith Mitchell met with Chilean President Dr. Ricardo Lagos Escobar during a luncheon meeting.

Prime Minister Mitchell updated President Escobar on the significant progress made in the reconstruction process since the passage of Hurricane Ivan in September. The two leaders discussed issues surrounding global climate change and the need for all countries to focus more on disaster preparedness.

The role of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in assisting Developing countries in disaster preparedness was discussed in detail. It was noted that the role of Secretary General of the OAS with respect to disaster preparedness, training opportunities and governance must take priority.

President Lagos toured several sites affected by Hurricane Ivan in the Parish of St. George, including Parliament, Government House and the National Stadium.
