The Committee with special responsibility for Vendors, convened its first meeting on Tuesday March 1st. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell at a
recent consultation with Market Vendors announced the formation of the committee.
The committee comprises Ministry of Works Permanent Secretary, Crispin Fredrick, representatives of the Royal Grenada Police Force; ASP Rodney
Baptist and Supt. Ted Toussaint, Market Employee; Anthea Renwick, Vice President of the Vendors Association; Ian Harford other members include;
Mary Samuel, Brenda Fleming and Nola Wellington.
The committee made the following:
- All snacks including soft drinks should be sold at the NIS car park on Friday and Saturday.
- All fruits and vegetables should be sold inside the market, some considerations will be given for the farmers with trucks on Friday and
Saturday
- Vendors on Granby Street will remain there
- All Vendors are allowed one table
- Sandals, CD’s and such items should be sold at Halifax Street. It was suggested that the sellers should not have more than one table and
no permanent structure. By the end of the day all their possessions should be removed from the sidewalk
- Vendors who own Booths are restricted from selling on the Side Walk
- Selling in trolleys should not be allowed because of the danger it poses to pedestrians and motorist
- Selling in baskets is permitted, however vendors are not allowed to sell from a fixed location
